Special Report On May 2, 1861, the town of Moca, wrote pages glorious and golden letters in the national history, because on that date, a courageous and determined group of children of this community, staged in the heart of the fertile and prodigious land, the first armed uprising in the country, against the annexation to Spain, which had been an unpatriotic action, abominable and reprehensible, designed and powered by General Pedro Santana, with whom mortgaged sovereignty.
Annexation to Spain, was proclaimed on March 18, 1861, and only 45 days after consumption, found in Moca, rejection, rejection and resistance of a group of men, with a high sense of patriotism, courage personal, nationalism and civic responsibility, such as Jose Contreras, Germosén Cayetano, Jose Inocencio Reyes, José María Rodríguez, Antonio Passicá, among others, all people determined to defend national dignity, fighting for freedom of the people and prevent our nation pass for the second time, to be a colony of Spain, under the cry of Vive la Republique!, took by assault the headquarters location.
Don Elías Jiménez, considered the greatest traditionalist Moca of all time, chronologically narrate the events that gave rise to the glorious deeds of Moca, this May 2, 1861, stating that on 23 March same year, Don Bernardo Reyes, Assistant General Juan Suero, Comandante de Armas, read the minutes of incorporation Moca in the Dominican Republic to Spain, the Dominican flag replaced the English, a fact that was frowned upon by Moca, "The uneasiness invaded the minds of Moca, seeing tricolor insignia replaced by red and yellow flag of the former colonial power. "

SIGNIFICANCE AND HISTORICAL ASSESSMENT Heroic OF MAY 2, 1861, IN THE CITY OF MOCA, FACT SERVED THE SPARK OF INSPIRATION FOR RESTORATION THE REPUBLIC

Special Feature Heroic Battle of May 2, 1861 in Moca, was a patriotic and libertarian work, designed, driven and led, by a group of men coming out of the bowels the humble and hardworking people, mostly farmers from the fields near the community, people with few economic resources and little training academic or military, but they were armed beings with great courage, spirit of patriotism, love of country and determination to fight to save our Dominican Republic. However, it should be noted that the main protagonist of this event, Colonel Jose Contreras, had military training and education and is credited with being a wealthy person. According to the traditionalist
Moca, Don Elías Jiménez to realize the fact, General Jose Contreras, sends sparks buy 200 stones and spent several days collecting weapons, cartridges and recruiting preparing some patriots to confront the decision to deliver Pedro Santana national sovereignty in exchange to receive some benefits as the title of nobility. 45 patriots who participated in this heroic battle, met in John Lopito that glorious night of 2 May 1861, rose in three groups, one on the street President Vásquez (Cuesta Belliard), another group by Antonio de La Maza ( old slope of stones) and the other group walked down the street José Dolores Alfonseca (La Vega), reaching the three groups in front of the headquarters in Independence Street, corner of President Vasquez, which is where today the Agricultural Bank.
In his memorable book: "Traditions Mocanes," Jimenez says Antonio Passicá, melee facing the Chief Fire Officer, Captain Chaplain, killing him, while other English soldiers fell wounded in front of others flee. The survivor of the epic of Moca, were submitted to a Council of War on May 18, 1861, chaired by Brigadier General John E. Aritza, Secretary, Francisco Dubrei; prosecutor, Col. Manuel J. Abreu. All the defendants were assisted in their defense by Felix Morillo, José Antonio Perozo and Jose Concepcion Taveras, as they were convicted in this trial summary Colonel Jose Contreras, José María Rodríguez, Juan Francisco Reyes, Jose Inocencio Reyes, Ceferino Cepin, Solomon Sari, Bonifacio Gomez, Cayetano Germosén and others, to be ringleaders and accomplices of armed rebellion attacked and wounded the general headquarters and killed Captain Serum Francisco chaplain, an officer of the guard of the prison. Some were sentenced to death, others to five years in prison and some six months under police surveillance.
