In Dark Angle , I have proposed to make a meme of Art. The truth, I am not very knowledgeable on the subject, although curious. I will do my best. Let's start

The March 10, 1766 Esquilache led to an edict by which prohibits the use of long coats and slouch hat (wide brim). The reason: Trying to ensure safety in the street, if long coat was replaced by a short and wide shade of a cocked hat, it would be easier offenders to recognize and harder to hide weapons to clothing.

The next day, the officers were ordered into the streets cutting layer and change of hat, but with bodyguards case. They were accompanied by the Walloon Guards. The streets in those days had new tenants, tailors, trimmed coats and pointed hats of Madrid.

Amid all this turmoil, Cuenca father appeared, dressed in habit, crown of thorns and carrying a crucifix, with the intention of mediating between the king and sublebados. So did you get these Carlos III claims :

Carlos III had to accept this in writing, but that night the royal family he went to Aranjuez. The riot rose to be the city without a king and retained the chairman of the Council of Castile. Really the main cause of the riot was the edict on the dress? Or really was the hunger and discontent?

Perhaps the fact that Esquilache attempt to control the dress of the locals, it was just the straw that broke the camels back, as prices, bad economy and citizens' dissatisfaction with the foreign served as a breeding ground for the rebels.
